SMS is one of the longest established private group of companies in Malta, having its roots in the shipping business. Notwithstanding the fact that SMS has been successful in retaining its core traditional values for professionalism and ethical standards, it continues to be at the cutting edge of innovation and diversification.

Shipping was one of SMS Group’s first businesses which started at around 1860 with offices in Victoria Gate area of Valletta. Some of its partners include K Line (largest Container Carrier Worldwide) and Messina di Navigazione. Today SMS Shipping is also responsible for Ship Chandlery under the name of PN Fenech, and Bunkering Broking under the name of BBL.

SMS Shipping has been the leading ship agency in Malta for many years and has achieved this through dedication, efficiency and commitment to its principals. Thanks to Malta’s advantageous geographical position and favourable climate SMS Shipping is positioned ideally to offer a full range of shipping and yachting services.

SMS Shipping provides any service requirement by all types of vessels such as ship agency services in Maltese ports, detailed mariners’ forecasts, as well as manning agency services. It also provides similar services to yachts.

Amongst the services offered SMS Shipping also provides Offshore Operations.

Over the years, SMS Shipping has won awards from recognised bodies such as BIMCO, ASA, IBIA and the Malta Chamber of Commerce. It is also ISO Certified.

It is on this basis that SMS has developed from a shipping agency to a large group of companies employing over 500 persons active in travel, tourism, shipping, insurance, logistics, ship registration and financial services, as well as general trading.

SMS currently operates under the chairmanship of Neville Mifsud who is assisted by the directors Dr Simon Mifsud, Samuel Mifsud, Michael Warrington and Guy Mahoney.

SMS operates both locally and internationally in over 10 countries.
